Overview of Arasavalli (Temple of the Sun)
In the northernmost district of north coastal Andhra is the only sun temple in the state. About 3 km from the district headquarters of srikakulam city, the Sun Temple at Arasavalli, attracts pilgrims from all over the country. This Sun temple resembles the architectural skills of the sculptors Vishwakarma Brahmins called as Maharanas in Orissa. The Temple of Sacred Arasavalli sun is so constructed that the rays of the rising sun fall directly on the feet of the holy idol god Surya twice a year. In these two days, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from all over flock to Arasavalli, in order to obtain the blessings of God Surya Dev.
The five idols are installed in one place in the temple; are Aditya, Ambica, Vishnu, and Maheswara Ganesha, worshiped by different devotees. The Sun God is seen as riding on a royal chariot drawn by seven spirited horses driven by Aruna. All monuments Arasavalli are exquisitely carved from a single block of black granite stone. Sundays during the five months of Magha Masam are considered sacred and people in many different parts of Andhra and Orissa come here to worship the Sun God Arasavalli. The jayanthi day surya or Ratha sapthami brings thousands of pilgrims to take a dip in the Pushkarini (Santa River) and Dharshan Arasavalli sun god.

Arasavalli is 3 kms from the headquarters of Srikakulam district. Srikakulam is well connected by rail and is a little out of the road. It is only 100 kms north of Visakhapatnam.
Vizag is well connected by air, rail and road to reach Arasavalli and is midway between Chennai and Kolkata online. Nearest rail head is Srikakulam Road in Kolkata line.
