    Overview of Mahanandi
    Amid the thick forests of hills Nallamalai in Kurnool district, is a place of pilgrimage, Mahanandi. Mahanadi is one of the Nava Nandi in the country. Homes Mahanandi Mahanandiswara 1500 year old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of a linga. Adding to the peaceful surroundings is the perennial flow of clear, fresh water, with five different medicinal springs. Devotees take a holy dip in the sacred waters of the springs inside Mahanandi and then proceed to worship the sacred linga. The water in this tank is also used for irrigation in Mahanandi. A festival is held here every year in February and March on the day of Maha Shivaratri. The temple of Sri Devi Kamaeswari is in the southern side Nandeeshwara. Kamaeswari Sri Devi is the wife of Lord Mahanadeeshwara.

    Nava Nandi Mahanadi: 

    This pilgrimage center is called Mahanandi as one among the Nava Nandi. These are located within ten miles of the town. Surya Nandi, Vishnu Nandi, Naga Nandi, Garuda Nandi, Soma Nandi, Vinayaka Nandi, Shiva Prathama Nandi Nandi and Nandi temples are the 9 located at Mahanandi.

    Garuda Nandi - Nandi This temple is located towards the western side of Mahanandi temple.

    Prathama Nandi - Nandi This is closer to the train station Nandyal.

    Surya Nandi - This is located about six kilometers away from the west of Mahanandi.

    Naga Nandi - This Nandi is placed on the inner side of the Anjaneya temple on the western side of Nandyal.

    Soma Nandi - Nandi This is east side of the Nandyal and closer Atmakur.

    Shiva Nandi - Shiva Nandi is thirteen miles from Nandyal.

    Vinayaka Nandi - Located in the north-west of Mahanandi.

    Vishnu Nandi - Nandi This is about two kilometers from Mahanandi and also known as Krishna Nandi.

    Mahanandi access:

    The Mahanadi is only 15 km from Nadyal and 80 kms away from Kurnool.

    The nearest airport is at Hyderabad which is about 288kms from Kurnool.

    To reach Mahanandi, the nearest rail heads are at Nandyal and Kurnool.

    Nandyal and Kurnool main centers, which are closer to Mahanandi, are well connected by road to other major cities of Andhra Pradesh.

    There are some private buses and buses of APSRTC Hyderabad, that ply the pilgrimage center of Mahanandi.

    Hotels, hostels and lodging are available in Nandyal government and better facilities are available in Kurnool.
